This course introduces the concepts of social studies, early civilization, and entails learning the geography, history, political structure, and cultures of the eastern hemisphere including the Medeival Europe, Roman Empire, and Ancient Greece.  After a review of basic social studies themes, select regions and countries are studied through geography and its economic implications, and representations of history in present culture.

• Evaluate the impact of geography, agriculture, and conflict on human settlement
• Analyze and gather information through map studies
• Apply the themes of social studies to various regions
• Review known histories of indigenous peoples and heritage
• Consider the relationship between medieval Europe and the founding of the U.S.
